ERA is gearing up for another exciting ERSP Summit and Government Affairs Fly-In on May 24-25 in Washington, D.C., at SunTrust Headquarters. This is an opportunity for the direct response marketing industry to come together for a two-day event to get up to speed with what’s happening in today’s regulatory climate, and advocate for direct-to-consumer marketing on the Hill.
In fact, we’re excited about our session lineup for Tuesday and Wednesday. Among the highlights is a Fireside Chat with FTC Commissioner Terrell McSweeny. The Commissioner will sit down with Venable LLP’s Amy Mudge for a candid discussion about new developments at the Commission as it pertains to the direct response industry. This special presentation will take place on Tuesday during the ERSP Summit.
One of the must-attend events at this year's conference is the keynote presented by Congressman Pete Sessions (R-TX), Chairman of the House Rules Committee. During this special presentation on Wednesday, the Congressman will discuss legislation to curb the scope of the Department of Justice’s “Operation Choke Point” efforts. In 2013, the Department of Justice championed an initiative that became known as Operation Choke Point. The effort saw federal banking regulators pressuring financial institutions to terminate accounts and discourage processing relationships with “High Risk Merchants,” including: “As Seen on TV,” Get Rich Products, Government Grants, Multi-Level Marketing, Sweepstakes, and certain Telemarketing activities. Now, as chairman of the House Rules Committee, Congressman Sessions is championing legislation that would prevent this type regulatory activity.
Last year, Utah State Attorney General Sean Reyes delivered a most entertaining and informative keynote presentation, shedding light on how DR marketers can better understand their State Attorneys General with regard to consumer protection.
On May 25, ERA will be joined by another rising State Attorney General star, Karl Racine (D-DC). Attorney General Racine will welcome attendees to our opening reception. It will be a reception to remember and a key way to learn how State Attorneys General think and the best way to position your business appropriately in the years to come.
These are just a few reasons why you need to register for the Government Affairs Fly-In today!
