With the 2014 ERA D2C Convention upon us, it’s time for ERA to hand the reins to our incoming chairman and present the 2014-2015 Board of Directors. This year, we welcome two new Board members: Brandon Lewis, President of EvTech, and Shannon Moyer, Associate General Counsel at QVC.
Leading the Board is incoming Chairman Chris Reinmuth, Vice President of Midmarket Sales at Meritus Payment Solutions. Chris brings more than 15 years of industry experience to his chairmanship, and has been an instrumental voice in the association over the years—from conducting a strategic push into new, digital markets, to ensuring new members get to know the industry and the association. On behalf of the entire ERA staff, we look forward to working with him during his tenure.
I would also like to thank outgoing Chairman Elliott Segal, Senior Vice President, International Products at Guthy-Renker, LLC, for his great work and tireless service to the Board and ERA. His input and insights have helped put ERA on a path to growth. Elliott will lead ERA’s Nominating Committee in identifying candidates for ERA’s 2015-2016 Board of Directors. He will also lead the ERA CEO Council, chairing the CEO Summit at the D2C Convention in September.
We can all agree that the nature of the direct response business is changing dramatically. Digital is now an integral part of the industry, and it is moving so fast it is hard to know how it will sort out. Our new chairman and Board are focused on current trends in technology and marketing, and ERA is educating policymakers on the issues that matter to marketers today.
One hot-button topic ERA continues to monitor closely is product counterfeiting, which was a focus of the ERA Government Affairs Fly-In in May. Following up on the announcement of a new anti-counterfeit program by Julie Bainbridge of Amazon.com, ERA has connected many members directly to the e-commerce giant. In addition, members of ERA’s Anti-Counterfeit Coalition (ACC) also scheduled a visit to the National Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Coordination Center in Washington, D.C., last week, working on behalf of the industry to combat this chronic concern.
I am also excited to announce that the Electronic Retailing Self-Regulation Program (ERSP) has unveiled the ERSP Copy Review Service, a significant member benefit that offers marketers the opportunity to voluntarily submit direct response advertising for an early-stage self-regulatory review of the core claims communicated to consumers. This service will help marketers and their partners get on the right track early in the production process. For more information about this program, please contact Bill McClellan, ERA’s vice president of Government Affairs, at [email protected].
ERA has great things planned that will have everyone talking at the D2C Convention. I look forward to seeing you on the show floor, and discussing the issues crucial to you and your business.
