For the past 25 years, ERA has led the fight to advance direct response marketers' needs on Capitol Hill. In fact, protecting your interests is the primary reason the Association was founded all those years ago. In the beginning, there was a very real threat that government action would ban the industry from operating over the airwaves.
Fortunately, industry leaders responded to this threat by forming the National Infomercial Marketing Association (NIMA). Then these founding members fought off the impending danger from the government and the rest is history. NIMA soon morphed into what today is known as the Electronic Retailing Association (ERA).
You know the rest of the story. ERA has been the leading industry force lobbying against negative regulatory outcomes at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). With your support, we have succeeded in thwarting many of the bad ideas that have surfaced in Congress that would harm your business.
Together we have become an important force of advocacy for the needs of our industry.
I am pleased to announce a continuation of this proud tradition of industry leadership and association for the greater good. In conjunction with the Electronic Retailing Self-Regulation Program (ERSP), ERA will again host the Government Affairs Fly-In scheduled for May 12-13th in Washington, D.C.
We have an unbelievable lineup planned for attendees that will educate, inform, and delight you while you are here.
Special guests include:
- FTC Commissioner, Maureen Ohlhausen
- Utah State Attorney General, Sean Reyes
- Vice Chair House Energy & Commerce Committee Congresswoman, Marsha Blackburn (R-TN)
- Honorable Mark L. Pryor (former U.S. Senator D-AR)
- FTC Assistant Director Ad Practices, Rich Cleland
- FTC Associate Director Marketing Practices, Lois Greisman
- Advertising Self-Regulatory Council President & CEO, Lee Peeler
- FTC Enforcement Attorney, John Andrew Singer
- ERSP Director, Peter Marinello
These government leaders understand the importance of meeting with you and hearing your concerns. I am sure you will agree that this high-level access is virtually impossible to find anywhere else other than at ERA.
I look forward to seeing you in D.C. next month for this important industry endeavor!
